How to nail the Black Friday sales
Overwhelmed by the insane amount of marketing emails shouting at you that they’re having a sale?
Feeling pressured to buy things because they’re on sale and it ‘makes sense’?
Black Friday, which is the 24th of November this year is known to be one of, if not the biggest annual sale for all brands. It’s becoming more popular than Boxing Day and brands are working months in advance to prepare for the chaotic response they often get.
BUT… for us consumers it can be a trap and a great way to spend money on things we don’t necessarily need. Don’t get me wrong, I am the first person to put my hand up and say my eyes naturally light up when I see the word ‘SALE’ or ‘FURTHER MARKDOWNS’, as historically this has been a popular time to buy a mass amount of clothes for my wardrobe.
However, since becoming a qualified stylist my logical brain has come to the party and I am now far more strict on what I’m buying during these major sale seasons.
My top 5 tips when shopping Black Friday are:
Prepare yourself a list. I have been adding to a list for months in the notes section of my phone as I know Black Friday is around the corner, and like any other person I try and save money where I can if I know it’s likely to go on sale soon. If it’s a piece that is going to sell out, then I suggest avoiding this point because you might miss out. BUT, if it’s something that you don’t need in the upcoming weeks, save it to the notes list and forget about it. As you gradually build this list, you will go into the sale with a clear mind.
Identify what you need, rather than what you think you’ll wear. If you are someone that often impulse buys and then leaves the clothes in your wardrobe to collect dust, take this sale period as an opportunity to only buy what you can add onto in your wardrobe. Start from the basics! If you are unsure where to start, download my free copy of 10 Wardrobe Essentials available on my homepage.
Ensure you shop around at different stores. Have an idea of how much you want to spend on that piece and how much it’s worth - sometimes if you shop around on other websites or in other stores you can find that suppliers have better sales. A great one to look out for is The Iconic. They can often sell pieces for a greater discount than the store directly.
Do your Christmas Shopping. If you are someone who loves the adrenaline of shopping a sale, go into it prepared and buy your Christmas presents for your loved ones. It’s a great way to save some $$$ and be organised for the festive season. Most stores will extend their returns/exchange policies over this period but ensure you check it out beforehand!
Commit to wearing and/or using your new purchases. If you are going to spend the money (and buy all means I’m not saying not to) enjoy the process of styling the new with your old! If you need help with this, get in touch here!
Approach these sales with logic and enjoy the excitement of buying new pieces! Happy shopping!
